Theory Extension Paper 100 points
This paper will have you give a brief overview of the theory (it must be something we covered in class), and
then you will write to where and how the theory is being currently applied. All of this should be 1.5 to 2.5
pages. The rest of the paper should be you thinking of new ways and new contexts the theory you chose could
be applied. This paper should be 5-6 pages not counting title or reference pages. This paper should be
formatted in APA style, with Times New Roman font and double spaced pages.

Select a word that represents your past, one which represents your present, and another representing your future. You will introduce yourself by detailing why you have selected the word and how it represents you. Consider activities with which you are associated, your ambitions, your talents, or anything else you think might be an important aspect of yourself.
To prepare, briefly jot down the reasons you chose this description and what it says about who you are and how you feel about yourself. Give some thought to your choices
Now, read over your notes and determine what you want to include in your speech. These ideas will become the body of your speech. You will need to add your introduction and conclusion. These will be lasting impressions of you and are important elements for your speech.
Think about how you will begin. Start your presentation creatively rather than saying “My name is _______and the first word I chose is ______.”
To conclude, avoid saying “Well, that’s all I have.” or “That’s all the time I have.”
On index cards, write down a few key words to jog your memory while you deliver your presentation. DO NOT READ YOUR SPEECH WORD-FOR-WORD.
Practice your presentation before videoing yourself so that you can deliver the information with only occasional glances at your notes.
Consider asking friends or family members to view your presentation before submitting.
How will I be graded?

When Recording your final draft: After recording has started but before you begin your assignment you must verify your identity by holding a valid state- or nationally- issued picture ID to the camera so that it is visible and recognizable to our assessment staff. If you do not do this step you will be asked to resubmit. A driver’s license or passport are preferred.
Recording Instructions
Submitting for this assignment is an easy three-step process:
Record
Upload to YouTube
Submit a link to your YouTube video
You can record and save videos using software on your computer before uploading them to YouTube. The most common computer recording programs are Camera for Windows 8+ and Photo Booth for Mac OS X (a download may be required). You may also use your device manual to look up how to record videos. After saving your video to your computer, please upload it to YouTube.
An alternative approach is recording a video on mobile device (phone or tablet). Please note that this could affect the quality of your video and you will need to download the YouTube app to upload your video.
Using YouTube: YouTube is a free service which allows anyone to post videos online and share them. Please understand that your videos do not need to be public. You may make your video Unlisted as long as you share the link with StraighterLine for evaluation. You should not make your video Private because graders will not be able to view it. Once you have received feedback you can delete your video or make it private, however, good work is always worth sharing (though we do recommend that you edit out any appearance of your ID).

Hi, The assignment is to write a persuasive email based on a news article and prepare a 30-second elevator pitch based on it. Here are the instructions, please let me know if this is doable and whether I can provide any other information. I was thinking of writing about the massive quitting by employees and companies struggling to staff but I am open to ideas, of course. 1.) Persuasive Email Based on News Article Make sure that you use an email format (subject line, salutation, call-to-action or next steps, and closing). • Choose an issue (business, political, technology etc.) from a recent (the last two months) news article (e.g. Wall Street Journal, New York Times, The Economist, Business Insider, trade journal etc.), which you think will have the greatest impact on business in the coming year. Choose a topic that has interest for you or something that you might like to learn more about. • Write a persuasive email (limit 300 words, double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman) to your boss at ABC Consulting in which you: 1. Write a compelling subject line (not: Important or Please Read or, worst of all, a blank subject line.) 2. Summarize the article in your own words. You need to be able to paraphrase and summarize 3. Persuade your boss that this issue is going to have the greatest impact on business in the coming year. 4. Include a link to the article in the body of the email to make it easier for your boss to read. 5. Close with an “ask” or “next steps” that is clear and actionable (What do you want the reader to do when they finish reading the email?) 2.) The Elevator Pitch 30 Second Pitch/Elevator Speech based on the same News Story from the Email assignment Deliver a “30 second pitch” in which you persuade your colleagues at ABC Consulting that the issue you have chosen (for the news story from the previous assignment) is going to have the greatest impact on business in the coming year. Scenario: Consider that the email topic was approved by your boss at ABC Consulting, and now you are presenting the idea at the regular staff meeting.

Unit VII continues the study of organizational communication with a focus on leader and manager differences and styles. Solomon, Costea, and Nita (2016) in “Leadership versus management in public organizations” present an analysis between leadership and management. Leadership and management are not synonymous. Bennis (2009) lists eleven different ways managers and leaders differ (as cited in Solomon et al., 2016). A concluding point, “The most effective types of leaders are those with a high professional and managerial competencies, with solid knowledge coupled with managerial competencies,” (Solomon, et al., 2016, p. 150)
For this assignment, you will research the different ways that managers and leaders use communication to guide their organizations.
Feel free to use the same organization you researched for the Unit VI Case Study. You are not limited to this organization, but it may be easier to complete the assignment since you have already researched the organization in Unit VI. You can use the same sources for both assignments, if applicable.
Find an instance where the organizational leader communicates directly with his or her employees, investors, or customers. Analyze the message, the channel, and the potential for feedback. Do you believe that it is effective? Do you believe that it is the same type of message that a manager would send? Why, or why not?
Remember to focus on the communication styles of both leaders and managers. Strive for an equal balance between the two types of communication styles in your assignment.
Use the standard five-paragraph format (introduction/body/conclusion).
APA format should be used. The assignment should be a minimum of two pages in length, not including the title and reference pages. Content, organization, and grammar/mechanics will be evaluated.
