course video. (instructions are below) Due: August 3 before 3pm 20%
One and half pages Single Spaced, article and video/film cited at bottom of second page.
You are asked to think critically and assess one reading in relation to one
screening for a specific week’s theme in the course.
(course reading and visual material are to be assessed together)
Mireille Miller-Young, “Hip-Hop Honeys and Da Hustlaz Black Sexualities in the New

Ask yourself a series of questions to get you started:
-What connection(s) can you make between the reading and screening on the
week’s theme?
-What issues or concerns are being discussed or evaluated by the author of a reading that
you can argue in relation to the WAP video?
-What is controversial or resistant about the reading and/or screening?

In this week’s readings bell hooks discusses what “visionary feminism” looks like (103). She also discusses her own coming of age in the 1970’s and how loving bonds can create a world that is different than what we thought might be inevitable. She emphasizes the basic “fundamental and necessary truth: there can be no love when there is domination” (103).
PROMPT
Respond to the central thesis of positive change that the author is addressing this week:
Do you agree with this idea? Or not?
Are we on the brink of creating a more equitable environment for all people? What would make it possible?
Explain your response and be sure to quote hooks.
As always respond to a classmate.

Argue a thesis supported by credible, peer reviewed academic sources. The goal of this paper is to convince, not just inform, your reader of a point you are trying to make. The essay should have a clearly recognizable thesis in the form of an argument that a reasonable reader could disagree with.
The main point of the essay should be that toxic masculinity effects young boys in a bad way, and sets a bad example.
I will attach helpful articles to consider. Here is a helpful link: https://wibwire.wordpress.com/2019/05/26/rites-of-passage-on-the-modern-male-experience/
